This one finally made it to DVD, and I ordered it on the release date!

Don Juan (1926)

This was the first step toward successful sound-on-film techniques, pre-dating "Jazz Singer" by a year.

"Don Juan" was made with music and sound effects recorded on discs, then synched to the film, via WB's invention, the Vitaphone. It worked so well, they made a few other films this way before finally trying voices in "Jazz Singer." I have another such film, "The Better 'Ole," with Syd Chaplin (Charlie's half-brother).

The DVD also comes with a few Vitaphone shorts from the day the movie premiered in August '26. Should be interesting!

Although it was over a month ago, I'd like to say Tangled, because it's a pretty good film. :)

I f*cking love that movie!

I don't buy movies, I use either Netflix or Redbox, but the last movie I redboxed was Battle: LA. It was pretty good, lots of action sequences.
Can't we all just get along?

Found two during the week.

Got a great deal on Maverick ($6), but the real find was this:

There was a Criterion version of Charlie Chaplin's movie, The Great Dictator (1940), and while prices are usually high for that label, I got it on sale, half off, so it only cost me $15!

SCORE!!

Some of those $5 bin finds are pretty alright, but they're usually lacking on extras. I'd rather spend a little more money to get the version with all of the extras possible available.

Although, on the other side of that coin, I got the DVD version of Waterworld because it had the extended TV version with it, and the Bluray had just the theatrical version. Didn't really have much else in the way of extras though. :/

Haven't gotten any new DVDs since my last post.

Got the latest MST3K box set, the one with the Gamera movies! Of all the films they ripped on in the whole series, these were the best!
