I grew up watching the original anime, or at least the US version dubbed "Star Blazers," so yeah, after seeing a few scenes on YT, I figured I'd try it. The Marketplace has listings for less than $10, so yeah, I jumped on THAT action!

Great movie, btw. Dragged during the climax, but overall, they did a good job.

And yesterday, I found two volumes of the Star Blazers series on DVD, cheap, at a pawn shop in my area. Ten bucks apiece! Take THAT, Amazon Marketplace!

(Seriously, no one in the Marketplace has them for cheaper than $13, then the shipping)

I want to buy the complete Tennant years, but it's like $110. I'd really like to get the box set of Lovejoy, but it's almost $200.

I think the last thing I got was Rango. I forgot just how visually awesome that one was.

It isn't, but I need to get one for my Ashes to Ashes DVDs. What I really wish I could find is a portable all region Bluray player. My computer's is set up for reg. 2, and being an HP, it can only switch regions a few times before it's locked out. (wtf)

A couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd give one certain movie a try, just to see how strange it was.

Forbidden Zone (1980) is a cult film of sorts, with Herve Villachaize (or however you spell it) as the zone's king, but the REAL reason it caught my attention was that it featured Danny Elfman and the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. They were a theatrical troupe before settling on becoming the band some of us would remember.

Danny's brother, Richard, directed the film, as well as being a co-founder of the MKotOB.

As for the film itself, VERY WEIRD, INDEED. Many reviews compare it to some of the '30s Fleischer cartoons, with adult touches to boot. And it was originally in black-and-white, but the latest DVD has it in color for the first time.
