'70's Music

Postby Niels0827 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 10:22 pm

I figured since there was a thread for music from the '80s (which is more or less a 'love it or hate it' decade for tunes), there should be one for the '70s. Though the Seventies were pretty much defined by rock music and the playlists were somewhat less diverse than the '80s, there were some fantastic sounds from this decade.

I've noticed that many songs from the '70s don't follow a typical song structure; they'll have 2-minute long intros, bridges, or breaks, unusual sound effects, inconsistent choruses or lack of one, etc.

Here's a good example from 1971:

The Who - Baba O'Riley (Teenage Wasteland)

One of my favorite songs from the 70's is American Pie by Don McLean

Don't forget the CB craze. Lot's of CB music. Lot's. And lots of trucker music too.

Here's a funny one from Cledus Maggard and the Citizen's Band:

I'll just skip over all of the obvious Bowie I could throw up here. Here's two of my most recent 70's purchases:

Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) - Reunion

It Never Rains In Southern California - Albert Hammond

I love this truck song. C.W. McCall's Night Rider.

About a very overtired truck driver driving from Winnemucca to San Francisco on I-80 over the Sierras with a load of black sheep. Sung as if the truck driver is really falling asleep at the wheel:

Edit: I do have more '70s songs NOT truck or CB related; but I'm waiting for others to post.

why hey there

70's Progressive Rock is the best kind of rock. From warm melodies to sprawling lenghty epics, to even manical, pounding awesomeness - Prog's got it all, baby.

Plus the live shows are a blast.

Damn you Niels, I was thinking of starting this thread. :B
