Is South Park just not as funny as earlier episodes?

Postby RPG_Player » Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:47 am

I was watching the new episodes of South Park and I noticed that they had a few funny parts, but were no where near as funny as earlier episodes. I just watched an episode called "Cherokee Hair Tampons" and I consider that a classic South Park episode. Just watch it and tell me it ain't funny. Is this just me or do other people agree on this?

I still like the new episodes, but yeah, they're not as funny as older ones. The humor's more subtle nowadays, but it's still there usually. The old episodes, however, could just slap you in the face with one hilarious joke after another. Cherokee Hair Tampons is a very good episode and a perfect example of why classic South Park rules.

Personally, I consider this whole "new SP isn't as funny" idea as little more than the over-the-top nostalgia that plagues every fanbase of every long-running TV/ Video Game/ Movie series. Not that old SP is at all bad, but it gets way too much praise nowadays.

I'll admit that Lice Capades wasn't exactly the funniest (but still I enjoyed it) and Cartman Sucks was average, but I found With Apologies to Jesse Jackson hilarious. The Wheel of Fortune scene at the start is one of the funniest scenes I have ever watched in South Park, and I've watched them all.

I can agree with you that season 11 (..so far..) isn't up to scratch, partly due to the fact that I found season 10 to be brilliant, but you've just got to see what Parker and Stone come up with next.

Roll on 1104.

They're not as funny but i found Cartman sucks absouloutely hilarious. this is my order so far.
1. Cartman Sucks
2. With apoligies to jesse jackson
3. lice capades

Lice capades made me giggle abit. but the best part was the end with Angie. Man do i like her but that was f*cking funny. Cartman sucks made me fall off my chair. my fave episode ever though is Marjorine

Yes, I'm watching the 9th season and I'm thinking it's not as funny and not as cool as before. Many characters disapeared as some said. I think "Lil' Crime Stoppers hilarious!
Unhappily like the others said, the new are not as funny as the old ones.

I liked the final part of Marjorie when Kenny exploded them.
But I don't like the episodes, cause I hate the South Park girls, they too futily and stupid, I would like to live there and hang on with boys and say some "kind" words for the girls.

I have seen this kind of post on lots of bbs' since the third season... "I don't think Southpark is funny anymore, blablablabla, i loved the old episodes, blablablablabla, I like to stick a finger in to my anus and suck my finger clean afterwards, blablabla".

Seriously, we are 3 episodes into the new season!!! Get a grip, have some faith. Personally, I like the new episodes, although they aren't exactly classic. Season 10 was amazing and I'm sure that season 11 will be good too, just have some faith

The only thing I'm complaining is Kenny's role. But why since third season?! Forth season is great, as what I read third season seems to be! (Many major Kenny's roles). 8)

I think so too, but when a new season starts, for the last 7-8 years, some people begins to say that sp is on a decline and whatever. It's simply not true. Some epsiodes are better than others, but I think that's part of the show. All episodes can't be classics.

As for Kenny's role in the show, he didn't appear in season 6 and season 6 is filled with amazingly funny episodes. He's just a prop and has always been a prop - but he's probably the greatest prob in television history.

I'm a bit opposite. I used to think the Cherokee hair tampon episode was a classic until I watched it again a while ago, not having seen it for a couple of years. And I was kind of like "Er... it's not as good as i remembered it was." On the other hand, some old episodes still blow me away like they always have.
I think there is as many hilarious and as many not-so-funny episodes nowadays as there used to be earlier.

The reason the old episodes will always seem better is that they're the reason you started liking South Park. With every episode they got funnier and funnier, and you expect them to get funnier every time. The only reason the new season may seem dull to some is just that they've gotten so into south park that they're just used to the humor. I personally dont find too many of the older episodes extremely funny (though some are pretty f*ckin hilarious) and the newer ones better, but that's just me. I love the way season 11's started (besides Lice Capades, but the ending made it worth the wait). I don't think they've gone dull at all. The taste of people's humor has changed, and to be successful you have to change a bit as well. That's just my take on it.

My personal fave SP though is the Lord of the Rings one.

"God, I hate it when pornos try to have a plot."

"What are you guys doing?" "We're playing Harry Potter." "Haha, FAGS!"

I still love south park, but i feel that it has evolved into a slightly amusing serious drama.

South Park is a bit more politically motivated than childish humor motivated these days and to say it's not funny is just rediculous. They don't wanna do the same episode over and over again so they switch up their subjects a bit. It might be more dramatic and serious, but if they kept doing episodes like the first seasons, we'd get tired of it.

Change is good.

the new season is a huge disappointment so far...."cartman sucks" was the only good one...the other 3 were pretty lame...and the lice episode was really bad.

i think they've lost their passion...it seems like they think they can just crap these episodes out without putting much thought into them.

they've had so much success at this point that they've got nothing to prove anymore, and they're getting lazy.
