Not to sound like a "simple as fanboy" but I'm getting sick of this now. The episode clearly wasn't ripping on Britney, it was ripping on the media. They actually DID have a message with this one, but didn't get too self rightious and stuck up their asses with it unlike the last ep.

I know. And my posts have not suggested in any way that it was a rip on Britney - my point was that, if they're going to target anybody that truly deserves a South Park humiliation, it's Heather Mills - because she truly is a self serving bitch. :D

It's great that this episode had a message but, as I've said, it's got to be funny, too. Otherwise, it's really pointless. I'd rather a funny episode without a message than an episode which has a message but can't deliver on the humour.

Otherwise you expect it and it turns into Familly Guy. Do we really want that?

No offence, but please don't bring Family Guy into this. Family Guy, at one point, was one of the funniest shows on earth (the latest seasons have lacked, but, regardless, it was still funny). Even though it's full of random flashbacks and stuff, who really gives a sh*t? It makes people laugh. And it's a comedy. And you can be the best animation series which wins awards and such with how smart you are and still deliver on the humour aspect - South Park used to be so good at that. Season 12 has been void of this instead offering the message but not the laughter (with the first episode not really having a message but it was still 'funny at some points but not others).

I wonder if Matt and Trey read these forums. Heck, because if they do, they'll see just how bad the reception Season 12 has had so far.

I feel the exact same way, although this episode actually had more parts that made me laugh than Tonsil Trouble. So far though, I have been disappointed with the level of comedy in this season.

Still, props to Matt and Trey for continuing to do the unexpected. Some people are annoyed that this episode didn't rip on Britney more, but honestly, who isn't ripping on Britney these days? Matt and Trey managed to take an obvious idea and completely turn it around, proving they're still the kings of satire. Here's hoping it's just a little funnier next time...

I just wanna say that people who are saying "Season 12 is bombing right now." Like.

Only two episodes have aired so far.

How could you judge a 14-season run just on the first 2 episodes? I mean, if the season has 5 episodes that you say are bad in a row, then you're permitted to complain and hate the season as much as you want.

But 2 out of average number 14?

Come on, people. Some of you are better critics than that.
What's the difference between a 7-11 and a smurf?

A 7-11 is a 24-hour convenience store and a smurf is a small blue fictional cartoon character.

I see your point. On the other hand, it's a worrying trend. Usually, a South Park will start off with a brilliant first episode and then go downhill and then perk back up. I noticed that with Season 11 - IMO, it went from good to okay back to good again. Judging by the first two episode and the preview from the third, it's very much on it's way to, ahem, 'bombing'.

Guro Hentai

Postby germanguyII » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:49 pm

Really...most things are already said here.
But seeing a girl running around without a head?

I totally love the show and hang on the internet here in Germany just seconds after the airing to get the torrent (like millions do in Europe), and I got the point.

But I just don't like guro hentai.

Ok, we can talk about those tentacle monsters...

But please no more girls without a head running around and making strange sounds.

Hentai is like cartoon porn, right? Did you see any sexual acts, because I sure as hell don't remember any.

I don't want to go into detail, but Guru Hentai is very sick and can not be described as porn.

Use the wonders of the internet and go to the Wiki for that.

I think I'll pass. You're the first person who has brought this up, so I'll just assume that the vast majority of people(Including, most likely, Matt Stone and Trey Parker) didn't make the connection that you have.

Well, Guro is part of the Japanese culture, and for that reason I believe Trey can connect it:

WIKI: (Note: This is an official Wiki information)

History

Ero guro manifested in the 1920s as a "prewar, bourgeois cultural phenomenon that devoted itself to explorations of the deviant, the bizarre, and the ridiculous." [1] Its roots go back to erotic shunga artist like Yoshitoshi, whose mid-1860s woodblock printings showed decapitations and acts of violence from Japanese history. Ukiyo-e artists such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi presented similar themes with bondage, rape, and erotic crucifixion.

Ero guro's first distinct appearance began in 1920s and 1930s Japanese literature. The Sada Abe Incident of 1936, where a woman choked and castrated her lover, struck a chord with the ero guro movement, and came to represent that genre for years to come.[2] This and other activities and movements were generally suppressed in Japan during World War II but re-emerged in the postwar period, especially in manga and music.[1]

Over time, the ero guro movement's influence expanded into parts of Japanese theatre, art, manga, and eventually film and music.

[edit] In visual media

The typifying element of ero guro visual art is the macabre intermingled with sexual overtones. Often the erotic element, even when not explicit, is merged with grotesque themes and features—somewhat similar to the works of H. R. Giger. Others produce ero guro as a genre of Japanese pornography and hentai involving blood, gore, disfiguration, violence, mutilation, urine, enemas, or feces.

Examples of well-known guro mangaka include Suehiro Maruo, Shintaro Kago, Jun Hayami, Toshio Maeda, Henmaru Machino, Horihone Saizō, and Waita Uziga.

The modern genre of tentacle rape began within the category of ero guro (although it has much older roots in Japanese art; see The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife), but was so popular that it is now usually considered separately.

Ero guro is also an element of many Japanese horror films and pinku eiga, particularly of the 1960s and 1970s. Examples include Teruo Ishii's Shogun's Joys of Torture (1968) and Horrors of Malformed Men (1969) and Yasuzo Masumura's Blind Beast (盲獣, 1969), the latter two based on the works of Edogawa Rampo. A more recent example of ero guro in cinema is Sion Sono's Strange Circus (奇妙なサーカス, 2005).

There are many things that are more prominent in Japanese culture that Trey Parker has yet to spoof, so I really doubt this was his attempt at Guro Hentai, especially since there was nothing erotic about her head being off. Really, this is a big stretch. But, oh well, you see what you want to see or are familiar with I guess.

Wow, this was really a hate or love episode. I thought it was pretty good. The message was great and the way they delivered it was still gross and funny. I thought the ending could have been better though. I'll give it a 7.5/10 overall.
