Why I think Stan is Undoubtedly the Main Character

Postby scootpooter » Wed Sep 18, 2013 8:48 am

Although there are quite a few exceptions (considering SP's large episode count), a lot of episodes either revolve around Stan or at least have Stan as the voice of reason. Often, episodes will focus on Stan's development as a person, most notably in "You're Getting Old" and "Assburgers". While other characters sometimes take on a larger role in the resolution of problems, he's still in the background living through everything that happens. And when he does play that bigger role, he's generally proactive about it, even when others are not. In this way, he is like a symbol for the average person, and a message that the average person should make their voice heard. And while Stan is not a perfect person, and in fact can become short sighted or sometimes selfish, these pitfalls help cement him as someone everybody can relate to and as an example that we should evaluate ourselves for the same shortcomings.

Stan is Trey Parker's avatar. Trey Parker's been singly directing ever episode since Season 7. Yeah.
