Do Matt and Trey hear their voice pitched while recording?

Postby kingflurkel » Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:18 pm

I saw a "making off" episode on South Park. In it we see Matt and Trey doing the voices, we hear the sound "unpitched". I was wondering if they hear their voices pitched up through their headphones or not.

Couldn't find the answer on google so tried here. Glad I discovered this community!

They probably do, so they can make voice changes that much faster.

I don't think so. Raising the pitch is usually something that happens after the audio is already recorded. Also, it's not just the pitch, it's the speed of the audio that's affected. Listening to it the way it will sound after processing would have certain words starting before they're even spoken.

I suppose there could be a special way of just hearing the pitch without the change in speed, but it would probably be distracting. It's also an unnecessary thing to do.

Are you talking about "live" in their ears, or after it's been recorded? 'Cause I've seen one of the making of things where Trey would record a Cartman line, then have it played back pitched up to make sure it comes off the way he wants it to be. I imagine they hear it in their ears un-pitched.
