South Park is much better at setting you up and keeping you in suspense (sometimes for the whole episode) - and making you stop and say "damn, where the hell are they going with this?"
Whereas Family Guy says "remember that time when..." and then it just cuts over to the scene Peter was just describing - and so it's just like - "hey, look over here for a second"....and we're back!
and then Peter goes: "heh heh heh heh heh"
Obviously what South Park does requires alot more thought.

With SP sometimes the whole ep is a setup and you don't know what's going on until the very end of the ep, or sometimes not until the end of part two of a cliff hanger ep,and so it takes "WRITING" to string you along like that and keep you in suspense and in the dark about what's really happening. Not to mention all of the subplots and side stories and character develoment(s) that are going on.
FG just has no really interesting plot usually, and alot of rapid-fire jokes, some of which are funny and some of which aren't.And then they do all of the little cut away scenes which are like segues to jokes which are sometimes funny and sometimes lame. It's sort of like Beavis and Butthead on meth the way they just walk around and make fun of everything they see and everything they remember - but just real fast-paced.So it's just one zinger after another which is okay but it's really a "hit-and-miss" kind of thing and sometimes it's off-putting and seems malicious. When it's just a bunch of quick hitting attacks against one specific group,it just feels like there is malicious intent behind it sometimes.
You know what I'm saying? It's like Matt & Trey like to say "f*ck YOU" and here's why....
But with FG they don't explain or develop anything or put much thought into it and when they hit a specific group just like 'bam bam bam bam bam' and then there's no reason(ing) behind it,it's like WHAT THE f*ck? > FUCKYOU FAMILY GUY!
But with South Park sometimes they're offending you but they're also stringing you along to an explanation of why,or to make some greater point that's about something else entirely. So they've taken you on this big thrill ride and maybe pissed you off on the way but then it was all about something else after all and you can forgive them when it's all said and done because when you finally arrive at where they are taking you there is a light at the end of the tunnel.Usually there's ateast a little light at the end of the tunnel anyways.LOL
SP is totally off the hook but during the show they usually take you to different places and maybe a different outcome than what you probably thought you saw coming. Then instead of the ep totally pissing you off you end up laughing your balls off!
So they often end up letting you off the hook in the end.
Sometimes they don't though and then you have to think about it really hard and kind of scratch your head and say, "huh?" -- But usually after a few viewings it grows on you more and more and usually ends up making more sense after awhile.

SP has just about always been an awesome show compared to FG which its first few seasons I thought were great and people still talked about FG even after it was canceled and was on Adult Swim. But when it was resurrected was when things went awy, it just didn't seem to have the same effect when it first aired (writers?) And the Simpsons didn't totally suck ass back in the day they were where SP is today the number 1 animated show everyone talks about. But after a while they started to suck a lot of celebrity cock and by this time SP came on the scene and didn't suck as much celeb cock but instead mocked the idiocy of them. The new ep looks interesting wonder what game Cartman freezes himself for is it FFXII? or GTA: Vice City Stories?
i've seen a couple okay episodes and a few jokes that were funny but overall it is just way retarded and also too frequently offensive - it's not like South Park where they do offensive things but they have an actual intelligent point they are trying to make - no family guy is just offensive without making any sort of valid point at all - like madonna !!
Yes, I like it. It was funnier in the first three seasons though. It's incomparable to South Park for various reasons that I shan't go into. I guess one of the reasons it seems unsubstantial plot-wise is because it was written by manitees.
Edit: To the person above. You haven't a valid opinion on the subject having seen only a few episodes. It grates me when people add their two cents on a subject they know sweet F.A. about.

I never said I have only seen a few episodes.Wherever did you get that notion from? Say no to acid!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've seen them all like 500 times because they've been replayed so many times because there aren't that many episodes.
It doesn't even begin to compare to South Park or most other cartoons either and it rips off tons of other cartoons for most of it's ideas and makes them less funny than the original cartoons that they ripped off.
Believe me I've seen the show way more than I ever would have liked to.If television didn't suck so much ass these days I would gladly tune in to watch something else if there were better options at that time slot.Infact I did tune into watch other shows when the show was in it's original run because at that time slot there used to be other options. But on cartoon network's adult swim time slot there's not much else on at the time family guy is on and so I end up sort of watching it even though I've seen them all a million times and would prefer it if cartoon network would run something better than family guy or some of the other sh*t shows they run. They need to cancel about 10 shows and start showing some of the better ones.

The difference between southpark and family guy.
Southpark= Original, and gets new ideas for each episode that comes out. Gets better with each season
Family Guy= Great show in the beginning, but now it seems like with each passing season that family guy isn't that good anymore. I don't even watch the new episodes because they bring shame to the original episodes.

I can proudly say that the new American Dad this time was more funny than both episodes of South Park last week and this week. And the new Family Guy... well, it still made me laugh more than South Park did. Shame really, I love all these shows to death but American Dad [for me] seems to be reigning supreme in the comedy ranks.
