Thomas Crapper was an Englishman who invented the shut-off for clean water entering the toilet tank in the 1800s. The word crap comes from Crapper

The three tallest buildings in the world are currently:

1. Taipei 101, Taipei, Taiwan
2. Petronas Towers, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia
3. Sears Tower, Chicago, USA

But if you stand on the top most floor of each of these buildings, you will be highest in the Sears Tower.

I wonder if it would be a good idea for people to start stating their sources. After all, these are supposed to be "facts".

I've got one.

The word "avocado" can be traced back to the Aztec word "ahuacate" which means "testicle". (I mean, they do kind of have the same shape.) Keep that in mind the next time you're buying avocados at the store. :D

St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was not Irish.

Corned beef & cabbage is not an Irish national dish. It was actually invented by an Irish-American, hence it originated in the US.

This is analogous to how the Chinese fortune cookie was not invented in China. It was invented by a Chinese-American after he'd already immigrated.

The earliest vacuum cleaners were hand-operated. You had to work a bellows as you pulled it across the floor. One of the earliest electric ones was made from a fan, and a pillowcase. As I remember, it resembled some of the modern upright machines. I read it somewhere when I was a kid.
