Obscure Holidays and Other Weirdness

Postby Edduyasha » Sun Dec 09, 2007 4:10 am

Considering that it's December and Christmas is just a few weeks away, it got me thinking...

Who knows anything about the obscure holidays and weird observances? I guess...here, we can talk about these unknown celebrations and...stuff.

December 8 (today) would be:

- National Brownie Day
- Take it in the Ear Day (whatever that means)...

Tomorrow (December 9th) will be:

- Christmas Card Day
- International Children's Day
- International Pastry Day

Anyways, just talk about weird holidays and make up your own!

I declare December 3rd to be Ozzy Osbourne Day (because it's his birthday). Celebrate it next year by listening to his albums and...stuff!
Goodbye, cruel world...
I'm leaving you today
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye...

Goodbye, all you people
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind...
Goodbye...

December 5th was Repeal Day. The day that marks the ratification of the 21st Amendment and the end of prohibition in the United States.

Nice.

Unfortunately, I can't drink for crap- I've had half a can of beer and I got drunk immediately...then I had this huge-a*s hangover at school. It wasn't much fun.

- 15 days until Christmas

I declare December 11th to be screamo day, so listen to as much hard core metal and screamo as possible.

Mmm...tis not my cup of tea, but go right ahead!

I declare December 19th to be Gift-Trading day (at least for my school)! We're already doing a Secret Santa party in Orchestra class, and people are already talking about buying me and the other kids with their birthdays in December some extra gifts.

We need a name for those days after holidays where stores have all the holiday-related crap sharply discounted. Especially the candy. It won't last 'til next year, so everything must go! Something like "Clearance Day" or "Turnover Day" or "Sugar Day".

Oh god. I'm having such a hard time with an upcoming White Elephant gift exchange. I can't figure out whether to get something useful like a little keyring Leatherman, or something fun/funny like "1,000 Reasons Why Chuck Norris Is Great" (or something like that... I saw it a Barnes & Noble.)

Good idea. I declare the sales the day after a holiday 'National Surplus Sale Day'. Fair enough?

@ BRMBug- Wait...what's the difference between that and a Secret Santa gift trade? Anyways...I'd go for the useful thing; some people might not share the same sense of humor as you...but that's just me.

A White Elephant gift exchange is when you bring a random gift, and put it into a pile with other gifts. Then everyone gets a number, and they pick gifts in order. The next person can steal your (or anyone else's) gift, and after three steals, the gift is locked with that person.

Oh, we used to do that back in Elementary School...I hated it. I had the worst luck- I would always be one of the first to go, and I always picked the good gift...so people kept snagging it from me.

><

Anyways, yesterday (December 11th) would've been...

- National Noodle Ring Day

Today (December 12th) would be...

- National Ding-a-ling Day
- Poinsetta Day

Tomorrow (December 13th) will be...

- Ice Cream Day (Woot! I have vanilla ice cream, I'm gonna celebrate this one!)
- Violin Day (Woot again! I'm performing the holiday concert with the school orchestra class at the local Barnes and Noble bookstore tomorrow night!)

Today (December 15th) is...

Tomorrow (December 16th) will be...

- National Chocolate Covered Anything Day
