California Gay Marriage BANNED

Postby gtaca2005 » Thu May 15, 2008 9:01 pm

I don't really care, but I think this will eventually make the entire US lift the ban, seeing as California has led the way on many other fronts.

To be honest, I don't think the government should meddle with personal choices like gay marriage. I believe it should be up to the parties involved and where they get married (ie: church or something). I don't want to go off on a rant, so I'll just leave it at that.

As for California, sure. I'm completely fine with gay/lesbian marriage; it's none of my business.

WAIT FOR THE RESPONSE before you cheer.

California has wackos and just wait until they have their say. Opponents will fight to amend the constitution and this issue will NOW become part of the campaign for president.

Personally, I think Gay Marriage Bans are dumb. Sure, I myself don't swing like that, but some other people, well, they can't help it, and I don't see a reason why they can't be happy. I'm not an activist, I just think it's stupid. Good to see it's gettin' lifted down there.

I chuckle when people get upset about gay marriage; saying stuff about it "destroying the institution of marriage." Because it seems to me divorce has done waaayyyy more to cheapen marriage than any queers ever could.

The concept of marriage is simply evolving with civilization, just as it always has. 100 years ago, interracial marriages were illegel. Divorces used to be illegal. Women used to basically be indentured servants in a marriage; baby-making house slaves.

Gay marriage is a much bigger step forward, though, and it will probably take society a couple generations to fully accept it. Because, as before, the judgment of many is clouded by prejudice.

Pretty much why I don't even think about it anymore. But, as with straight marriage, I'm looking forward to similar divorce rates for gay couples. :)

But then someone will go on about how gay marriage doesn't last.

The marriage issue has been the only way some conservatives could irritate the homosexual community. They have not been able to stop them from coupling or cohabitating or adopting children by passing laws. The wacko conservatives will hold out hope that an amendment to the constitution will put a stop to homosexuals marrying. They want to have a way to say, “You’re not as good as the rest of us heterosexuals and you must accept it!”

I heard someone even suggest that if we allow gay marriage then the next step will be allowing polygamy; anything to scare the wacko conservative community.

It may turn out that homosexuals will have the same rate of divorce as heterosexuals but that is a different issue.

Or Massachusetts or Maine. California doesn't have to be first at everything. :D
