Another death sentence for Chemical Ali

Postby angeldeb82 » Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:17 pm

Ali Hassan al-Majid, Saddam's cousin known as "Chemical Ali", was again sentenced to hang for the 1991 suppression of a Shia uprising along with another co-defendant today. Here's the link:

I don't know about you, but I still think that executions by hanging are wrong, as well as killing, murder and genocide. In fact, I now oppose the death penalty for all crimes because of the flaws in its justice system. :(
Still the same as it ever was.

Glad you stick to your principles in even the most extreme cases, it's rare for people to be as consistant as you. The idea that two wrongs can make a right is laughable, though there may be enough purely social reasons to execute him (to quell the anger of the crowd) such executions would be acts of social control rather than justice.

I wonder, if some other country invaded iraq, the people who're executing Ali will be executed as Ali has been executed for being an executioner of sorts for his state...

The title of this thread lead me to believe this guy was sentenced to death multiple times. I see that is not the case.

(If people can get sentenced to multiple life terms, I figured...)

The dammage he's done is in the past. Hurting him won't solve anything. It could be said that it'll cause too many problems to keep him alive, as the Iraqis may rebel but... they're doing that anyway arn't they? And the death penalty generally 'brutalises' those societies that it's found in (that is to say, the murder and violent crime rate in societies usually drops after the penalty is revoked) so it could be best not to execute. With all the scientific skill he must have, he could also be too valuble to kill... maybe preted he's been executed (to appease the iraquis) and ship him off to a lab somewhere to use as a scince-slave :p
