Dude. I cannot believe nobody has mentioned Kamelot yet! Currently, Kamelot's got to be my favourite band of all time, not just of metal. Every time I hear Roy Khan's voice, he inspires me to go out and form a symphonic metal band of my own. Here are some favourite Kam songs of mine:

March of Mephisto
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV_94f3CsPQ

Moonlight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_jHRsKfpbA

Nights of Arabia (Live, from their DVD One Cold Winter's Night)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtWGgiaS-Rg

A couple other favourite metal bands of mine include Sonata Arctica and Epica.. here are some songs from them. (Trying to keep the links down to a minimum here XD)

Sonata Arctica - Don't Say A Word
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg5AcRuhjKQ

Epica - Another Me (In Lack'ech)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WTraB7FMh4

Other metal bands I'm into or am getting into:

Witchbreed
After Forever
Nightwish
Brainstorm
Evergrey
Iced Earth
Protest The Hero
Anathema
Dream Theater
H.I.M.
Savatage
System of a Down
Candlemass

And the not-so-"straight metal," rock, or indie/folk/etc. stuff:

Porcupine Tree
Blackfield
..anything else that Steven Wilson ever laid his hands on
Nine Inch Nails
Frank Zappa
Rush
Led Zeppelin
Sufjan Stevens
Regina Spektor
Muse
Modest Mouse
Evanescence (mostly the more creative, unreleased tracks)

I like a bit of everything. ^^

Wonderfully articulated. I wish I was as eloquent in my speech as you've just demonstrated. Listen, if you're only here to bash the music we like, GTFO. It's not going to change our minds. :)

Anyway. ^^ Let's keep the random flaming out of the thread, kay?

Taistelu, as much as i love death and thrash metal, i also LOVE progressive stuff as well, along with melodeath, so stop making fun of metal, it's all good, so stop it, or get the f*ck out of my thread, this is for friendly discussions about metal, not calling any type of metal you don't like "sh*t"!!!

anyway... here is a good dream theater song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPk_ZbqYkcs
"Time is a thing we must accept.
The unexpected I sometimes fear.
Just when I feel there's no excuse
for what happens, things fall into place.
I know there is no way to avoid
the pain that we must go through,
to find the other half that is true"

No joke, man. If someone has obviously put their heart and soul into their music, then it's good music, no matter what the genre. f*ck, I just admitted in THIS thread that I like indie-folk as well as metal.. :P

Mmmm, this is a great song indeed :D Listening right now, and I love how the time signatures change! I love prog.. anything progressive requires a lot of intelligence to write and perform. And I just love James LaBrie's voice. ^^ I really need to dig up those DT CDs that Schan burnt for me and put them on iTunes..

..Did anyone check out my Kamelot/etc. links before someone got all nasty? o.o

dude... no offense but power metal is flower power with no balls in it. The real power metal is Iron Maiden and other heavy metal bands like it. I understand you like power/epic/symphonic stuff, it's alright but not like Sonata Craptica or other modern power(gay) metal bands. Helloween, Blind Guardian is the real deal in the power business. Symphonic? Operatic? Or maybe Orchestral metal? Therion is the real answer.

Schliby, it's okay for you to love prog metal but it is not as good as prog rock. You have to admit that Pink Floyd is much better than your Dream Theater.
Death is prog death metal and it's very good but we're talking about straight prog (heavy) metal bands.

He doesn't have to admit anything, it is his opinion. Unless you are talking about how many more people like Pink Floyd, then I guess that is so.

I need to listen to more metal... I don't listen to a lot of music in general though....

Just remember this people, don't rip on other types of metal (unless it's any core music, or glam/hair stuff... but then again, it's not really metal), simply say that you don't care for it. (don't go around posting songs you don't like just to make fun of them either...)

here is an amazing song!

*sigh*

Taistelu, Taistelu. Who are you to judge what is "good" or "bad" to another person? Hate to bring the preachy bullsh*t into this thread, but we're talking about any and all metal. Any metal, whether you as an individual like it or not.

Listen, everyone's got different tastes, and personally, I believe that if someone has put their heart and soul into their music, then it's good music, even if I personally don't listen to it every day. DT is good; they work hard at what they do. So do Sonata Arctica and Kamelot and all the rest we've been mentioning. I'm sure your links are great; I've listened to some Therion before, and I have to admit, it was pretty good from what I heard. But you're not going to revamp our music tastes by going around and bashing what we like. Basically, what you're saying is that "hey, I understand that this music is what you like, but it's crap unless I say it's good." People like different aspects of the music they listen to, which is why they listen to it. So stop with the negativity, all right?

Now then, let's continue. ^^

Here's a kickass Kamelot song.. they opened with this when I saw them in October. :D IT WAS AMAZING.

Niice! Gah, I envy you.. you actually found people who were willing and able to be in a band. :o I've had the worst luck trying to get people together who would actually stick with the idea. I'm a vocalist and keyboardist looking to form some kind of symphonic or progressive metal band.. no such luck so far :(

speaking of Iron Maiden ...
here's the most unusual Iron Maiden song (in my opinion, of course)

i'm not that lucky... i lost my bassist and my rhythm guitarist... so there is only two of us, me, who sings and plays lead guitar, and my friend, who is a drummer...

but there is a good chance i'll be getting some replacements in a week or two though... i'll also be getting a manager, but because of him, we're probably going to have to drop the death song...
