I have a habit of listening to the "not real metal" bands. Sadly enough I actually like them, so I guess everybody hates me. I am still not sure what qualifies as real metal. I know not KoRn and Slipknot...

Rage Against the Machine? System of a Down? Lamb of God? Cradle of Filth? In Flames? Children of Bodom. Any of those real metal?

out of those, I'd say Lamb of God, Cradle of Filth, In Flames, and (somewhat) Children of Bodom are.

If you talked to a 'tr00' or 'kvlt' metalhead who listens to nothing but black metal and brutal death metal, he'd say that none of those are real metal.

Behemoth? That's fairly heavy, and still awesome.

yeah, behemoth is real metal.

I don't see why it matters so much, though.
I don't understand why you want to listen to "real" metal so badly. Just listen to whatever you like, doesn't matter if its real metal or not.

Just because it isn't metal doesn't mean it's bad. It's just that 80's is the prime time of heavy metal music. If you don't like Bon Jovi or Aerosmith, but you like Korn or Slipknot, there's nothing wrong with that, it just means you're obviously a bigger fan of Nu-Metal than metal metal. Personally I like Korn's first CD (especially Faget), but that's about it.

KILL THE RAPPERS, NOT THE EMOS. While emos are annoying, at least you can actually consider the genre a type of music, instead of talking without any grammar, and with "izzle" at the end of every word.

I saw their middle-school stuff before Issues as wigger crap. The two albums I mentioned earlier are more industrial rock than rap, especially See You On The Other Side. I couldn’t give two craps about their Limp Bizket spawning period.

To me, KoRn’s one of those bands that has multiple sides to them, I just happen to like the “Other Side” (LOL NO PUN INTENDED), as well as Untouchables, which I thought sounded cool. But then again, I am rather open-ended when it comes to music, I try to find acceptance in many things.

Plus I don’t watch MTV, so I’m not affected by it.

Thanks to the people who liked my Kurt Cobain comic! You can see more of my comics here http://www.penguininthesky.co.nr. I don't hate either bands, but I'm not really fans of them. I've grown tired of hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit on radio stations, and I only listen to one or two KoRn songs.

I have to go back to my question though. Why do people get so angry when someone else doesn't like the type of music they like? Most of my friends listen to stuff I don't like but I'm not a prick to them just because they have different taste than me.

My friend, it is called conformity. People find it fitting to be interested in only people who have similar likes, styles and tastes in things like music. If they come across someone who is not like them in any way, then they will just immediately lack any interest in that person whatsoever and automatically label that person as a loser. People like dividing themselves for some reason. The same thing goes with religion. If Catholics see a gay couple, they will automatically label them as not part of their vision of a perfect world, without considering what those people are actually like behind their homosexualness.

I guess part of it is to blame on MTV, since they overhype all that sh*t, people can't stop going on and on about it, and those who lack interest will obviously stand out and will more than likely not fit in.

Why people can't except people for being people is beyond me, but we do it anyway, and I don't see it changing in our lifetime, if ever.

You can blame every problem in the world on conformity, as well as MTV. But as someone else said, people get angry because music means a lot to them. For example, a person who skillfully plays a musical instrument might be aggravated by pop musicians who use machines and computer editing.

And MTV was something to get angry about a long time ago. It's nearly harmless now. Most people these days (yes I'm guilty) hate MTV and also tend to look down at the little kids who are obsessed with it. Is this right? If you don't believe in conformity, you should realize it isn't.

People who get angry at others for their tastes in music are usually people who listen to music they can relate to, so since they get the idea that their music defines them, they feel that the music another person would listen to defines that person. Make no mistake, Paris Hilton has absolutely no musical ability at all, so it's easy to conclude that the people who listen to the music have no talent also.

One thing I want everyone to remember is that anyone can listen to music. Don't feel cool because of what you listen to. The only thing that can make you cool is the ability to play good music, not simply listen to it.

I know, I was just curious. I'm not gonna stop listening to what I like just because other people don't like it.

I'm just tired of answering threads about music, or talking about it in real life, and hearing everybody go "eww metal sucks" and "That's not real metal" and all that.

And, Hat, the best albums in my opinion were Issues, Take a Look in the Mirror and Follow the Leader.

Slipknot > KoRn anyway :P

Yeah, some of hard core death metal fans are really picky about metal. That's why I don't like bands like Cannibal Corpse, their vocalist does things with his voice that I can do!
