Warner Bros. Dispute News Thread

I'd highly recommend focusing on the summons, included in the Variety article listed below.
Variety Article, posted 02/24/2023 (includes summons): HBO Max’s parent company has filed a lawsuit that accuses Paramount Global of reneging on parts of the $500 million licensing deal set in 2019 for the streaming rights to episodes of “South Park.”
The Hollywood Reporter, posted 02/24/2023: ‘South Park’ Licensing Deal Sparks Lawsuit From Warner Bros. Discovery Against Paramount Global. The suit accuses Paramount of conspiring with a joint venture created by the show's creators to undermine a deal with WBD for the exclusive streaming rights to the series.

Re: Warner Bros. Dispute News Thread
There goes a relationship that started back in 1997, when Warner Bros. became the distributor of South Park seasons on DVD and VHS and joined Paramount in bringing us South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut in 1999.
I thought there might be problems when WB got the SP Library, and then Matt and Trey made a separate deal with Paramount+ for the Exclusive Events which were supposed to be South Park-like, but different enough to fall out of the SP Canon. I guess they haven't been different enough for WB.

Re: Warner Bros. Dispute News Thread
Is it typical for a single movie contract to claim rights to all future content that is average movie length and includes any of the IP? That seems like an absurdly wide net which, I assume, is the point.Big-Will wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 5:03 pmI thought there might be problems when WB got the SP Library, and then Matt and Trey made a separate deal with Paramount+ for the Exclusive Events which were supposed to be South Park-like, but different enough to fall out of the SP Canon. Edit, 23/03/11: I am bias. I am on the defense's side. It's absurd to ask that of the team. f*ck, maybe claim rights for a couple of years, but asking them for the entire catalog? f*ck off. The defense has their work cut out for them, but if anyone can win, it's this group.

Does anyone know the name of the law firm representing HBO/Warner? It does not show up on the New York docket. I can't find anything about it on the docket.

I think it's Walden Macht & Haran LLP. They submitted the claim for WarnerMedia, according to the summons.joe_smiths_cousin wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 2:49 pmDoes anyone know the name of the law firm representing HBO/Warner?
