Anyone actually tried making Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls?

Postby MrWonderful » Sat Jan 13, 2007 10:19 pm

According to the rather catchy directions on Chef Aid?
I was thinking of trying it for fun to see if they're any good. Plus I have nothing better to do.

I hear they're not very tasty - the result is NOT what you're hoping for - but after the song came out in 1999, a company made some Chocolate Salty Balls, which were much like Milk Duds (no cinnamon or brandy), for a while.

In the Goin' Down to South Park documentary, Issac Hayes speculated that if you actually followed the recipe in the song, it probably would taste like somebody's balls.

Oh, he didn't post the REST of the recipe:

Quarter cup of unsweetened chocolate,
and a half a cup of brandy.
You throw in a bag or two of sugar
and just a pinch of vanilla.

...I have no idea how big a bag of suger is.

I'm SO making them someday soon!!!
I'm not very optimistic, though, as my baking/cooking skills pretty much suck. Or, in other words, I don't have any... I'll give them a try anyways x)

Hehe, if I was going to make them I would not follow the recipe of the song, I guess I would have to improvise.

I made them once and followed the recipe exactly the way the song goes. Well for one they didn’t keep their ball shape and they were super sweet. They became this really nasty looking light brown color and the shape they turned into looked like something you would find in the middle of a cow pasture lol. And they were really grainy. It was a fun way to waste an hour and a lot of sugar. Lol

I am a very good cook so I don’t think anyone could make good “Chocolate Salty Balls?” using that recipe. lol

I wanted to make them in high school for Food Technology but my teacher wouldn't allow it.

I made 'em. They tasted pretty good, but with no flour (or substance), they didn't hold together really well. The color seemed off... a light to medium brown.

It's fun to try once. I'll probably try tweaking the recipe and try again some time. When I figure out a good recipe I'll post it.
