The Region of South Park is located a while outside the city of Denver, Colorado. The Town that the show is based on is Fairplay, located in the South Park area.

There is a place called South Park, and it is located near Fairplay. It is an abandoned mining town if memory serves me right.
That's how it's down here on the farm!

Erm, South Park is actually a fabricated ghost town, an outdoor museum, located in Fairplay. It's in Park County, which used to be "South Park" County (There was also a Middle Park County and a North Park County).

I heard it was based on Littleton (near Denver) because Matt came from there (i think) but I may be hugely, hugely wrong.
