How many characters from the show will we be able to align with? In other words, can we recruit background characters?

No. The story still centers around the four boys, plus you.

One of the features in the description says you can recruit other characters from the show to join your party, or at least assist you in battle. Also, you have to earn the respect of most of the kids in town, not just the Fab Five.
