Navy Basic. I leave August 10. So much to discuss, so little time.

I ended up getting a job handling the electronic and computer equipment on subs

Answers my question from your countdown thread, i chose to reply to the threads in the wrong order I suppose. How dangerous and/or physically demanding is that?

Guy opposite me last year was doing something I think is like ROTC, went away for training every other weekend, odd considering how weedy he looked but he was apparently great at it.

I need to get more tech literate so i can live in the 20th let alone 21st century =S

To put it bluntly, it's really not that taxing. But that's for people who can handle being in tight spaces. On subs, it's extremely tight quarters, an example being the beds, take a look here.

And is it hazardous duty? There are actually two types of subs. The first type are called Fast Attack Subs, and they're job is to hunt enemy submarines. The other type are called "Boomers", the reason being that they carry 24 nuclear warheads. And both types run on nuclear power. So yes, I'd say it's hazardous duty.

I've heard stories about people on subs bumping their heads as they go from one passage to the next; just be careful! They don't teach you that; they wait until you bump your head; then you know. Seriously, be careful! Low clearance!!

I had a friend, a NAVY flyer, whose job at one time was to fly a plane from Florida to Maine and back all day; he towed a 2 mile wire behind him. That wire acted like a long wave antenna so help subs use their radios to report to base (or to where ever they were reporting). That's all I know about it; the rest is classified of course. But I find it interesting: a navy flyer whose job it is is to fly up and down the eastern seaboard towing a 2 miles long antenna :)

I'm still listening to the same song I was listening to earlier. And for those who don't know what I'm talking about, there's a forty-four minute song named "Thick as a Brick" by a British rock band named Jethro Tull. Am I crazy for listening to such a song? Perhaps, but I don't care.

Also, my dad was a mineman (aka a demolitions specialist of sorts). I bet the FBI's got a file on him. >_> <_<

My mum loves Jethro, she went to see him live for her 40th birthday if I remember, I never heard him myself though we all like our headphones in this house. Tried seeing meatloaf the year before but he had a heart attack on stage =/

My family are such chicken hawks, both my granddads refused to do national service and went to jail for it, despite being warmongering assh*les. Odd I don't know any army types given this is a garrison town. My (recently discovered to be half) sister's dad was apparently a soldier from New England, I saw her family at a gathering once or twice and just rolled with it not knowing who the f*ck these yanks were so in a way we've got army in my family but it's not blood relation at all.

Just spent the morning trying to get my two younger brothers to stop fighting. But now they're gone, and I can have coffee! Yay!

^^Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in the Middle Ages, coffee was called the "Devil's Brew", and drinking it was a sin.

You're not crazy, I've rarely heard it in it's entirety, but it's a great song. Usually they only play the first three minutes or so as a 'single edit' on the radio.

They must have had to split the song up to fill both sides of the album back when it was first released.

I know they did it with Pink Floyd's "Animals" They faded out in the middle of a song at the end of side one and faded it back in on side two. :?

It's all about Pink Floyd's 23-minute "epic sound poem" (Roger Waters' words) Echoes, from their album Meddle.

I get easily annoyed by jazz flute so I automatically hate Tull. Or maybe I hate them because my stepfather used to listen to them all the time. Who knows? Jazz flute is gay, though, that's for sure.

It's worth going to hell for! Don't mormons still think that or something?

Just spent the morning trying to get my two younger brothers to stop fighting. But

So glad I'm the youngest in my family, so I get to do all the annoying ^_^
