Re: What are you doing now?
editing a video i made, using my history of 3 day courses in video making, i am nearly as good as the frowning $200 an hour video-ographer, i feel... As this is my first job to have landed, i actually don't give a sh*t that i planted my tripod in the middle of his "Perrrrfect establishing shot" because why? I got the close up jump cut sh*t.

Re: What are you doing now?
Posting on here and watching some TV. (Also, wondering if I should get a dumbass from another message board forum to join just so he can be taught a lesson. I've decided that subjecting you guys to his abject stupidity would be cruel and unusual punishment for all of us.)

Re: What are you doing now?
Watching videos on antibiotic synthesis.
Many antibiotics are made by modified fats. Fats are basically long chains of carbon but antibiotics are big rings with complicated groups on the side. Like proteins are made of a small number of groups, put together in a specific sequence, these antibiotics are made by stuffing small fats together. Unlike proteins there's probably no DNA template directing what order the subunits are put together though!
Like workers on an assembly line do their job and pass the product to the next worker in a sequence, the simple fat is worked on by proteins that do specific jobs and then passed to the next protein in the 'factory.' The 'chassis' of the molecule is built first, then modified with reactive groups that help it kill bacteria. Fats are made in similar 'factories.'
If we learn more about making them, we could make our own antibiotics and help fight resistance. Alternatively we could make plastic alternatives that use less oil.

Re: What are you doing now?
Relaxing in the chair, with my cat Chorlton at the side of me sleeping, and watching this 4hrs+ video of this train route in Western Scotland (Glasgow - Fort William - Mallaig).
Having never been to Scotland (Nearest I have been, is Duraham), finding the scenery to be quite relaxing, and making me think I may go up to the area one day, however unlike the Derbyshire Peak District where I normally go hillwalking, it's a lot bigger, and much easier to get stuck up there.
