American states have an official everything, even an official state soil. That you'll be burred under one day, to complete the cheery death talk from earlier ;P

But worse than the fact you might possibly (but not necessarily) die one day....is that I stole the win from you, from all of you, forever, at least until you steal it back!

If that's true, then whatever they put in our state's soil, the dogs sure seem to love eating it.

I'm serious. They will eat dirt! I don't get it either.

We eat dirt too, just need plants to "process" it for us, part of the great cycle of sh*t ;P

Death is not really sad. Mind you, it's least funny when it happens to a child.

no. Death is sad. We all die, and yet it's not as sad when it happens to an older person or sick person (we rather celebrate their lives than just simply 'mourn') but it's still sad. :(

I hope my job starts soon...I'm sick of listening to all the stupid "Court shows" at this hour

Animals usually care for their own children more than for their siblings. However, full siblings share just as many genes with us (50%) as our kids do. One reason is we can be more sure a kid is our kid than our sibling is a full sibling; siblings could be half siblings (If no one told me my sister was half when I got to 18, i wouldn't have got it by myself) kids can't be "half kids." Dads usually invest less in kids than mums, possibly because dads can be less sure than mums the kid is theirs (it doesn't crawl out of them!).

Another reason we care for our kids more than sibs though, is our kids are usually a lot younger than our sibs. As such they can get more benefit per unit help than our sibs can. When kids get older, parents stop giving them as much help, because the parent can 'get more' (chance of their kids surviving) by helping other kids rather than helping a kid that can kinda look after itself.

This could explain why older or sickly people dying isn't as sad as a healthy kid dying - they lost more! Relates to the concept of quality life years, the thing doctors prioritize care to save the most of, at least they say they do.

(infodump courtasy of the selfish gene, which I should've read years ago, so pertinent to so many topics)
