The name "Jarvis"

Postby GRider22 » Mon Nov 20, 2006 1:52 pm

Does anyone know why South Park uses the name Jarvis a lot? Recent seasons they have either named characters Jarvis, like "Detective Jarvis" or they used it in made up words like "Jarvis probes" in Go God Go.

Is it like an inside joke with Matt and Trey?

Ya know, it's funny you mention that, I was wondering that myself recently. In this past season, they've used that name in 1001, 1002, 1013, and 1014. I'm sure it has some sort of significance to Matt and Trey considering they've used four times this season.

I know they are Friday the 13th fans and Tommy Jarvis was a chracter in about 3 of those movies so that might be why.

Maybe it's Jeff Jarvis, former TV critic? Did he trash South Park once?

I know this is an old thread but I just thought I would add that Jarvis is a common mormon surname. Considering their fascination with the mormons I would assume this is where it stems from.

There's a street a few blocks from me called Jarvis.

Funny, I can't recall too many Jarvis-es in SP. I can recall 50 diff Kevins though  But Jarvis is a fun cool name to use
I love: Stan, Butters, Cartman, Sharon.

Stan: MMOOMM!!
Sharon: What is it honey? (gasp!) My baby's killed again!

Well there's the detective, and I think about three kids that have had that name.

It's a simple throwaway name. Swanson, Kevin, Leroy/Leeroy, Nelson, etc. have all been used multiple times in the show. Kevin's become infamous, Leroy/Leeroy lasted through Season 10 and disappeared quickly, Swanson was used for Butters and Jimmy, and Nelson still recurs from time-to-time. Nelsons I remember include Randy's co-worker, Bat Dad, and the midg- little person.
