They call him Cartman because his first name sucks balls. Would you like to be called Eric everyday?

^ That's not a reason. Since he's been called Cartman from the very beginning of the show, I think they got stuck with it. Some teachers call him Eric like Mr. Mackey and Mrs. Garrison.

Are you dumb? He wanted to be called Cartman by everybody, but the teachers and his mum don't call him Cartman. I remember an episode when he shouted "I don't want to be called Eric" or something like that.

^he's never said that.

Some people's last name sound better than there first, I have a couple friends that we call them by their last name.

No reason at all, unless you happen to be a childhood friend of theirs with the last name Karpman. :)

Sometimes the last name sounds better than the first. That’s just how people label him I guess

Well, let's think about this. If you have a fat jackass that always hangs around and you don't ever really consider him your friend, you'd probably want to stay as detached from him as possible. Calling someone only by their last name is a way of keeping them at a distance. I always call people I don't like by their last names. It's a big "f*ck you" to them.
