Dammit, Oneirogenic, you beat me to it. As soon as I saw that "don't respond to this" post I was all about responding to it.

K, just to egg on the conversation further...

Stan and Kyle are so gay for each other. Craig and Tweek will have gay sex. Oh, and look for slash wherever you can find it, because I guarantee that's all over the show if you look hard enough.

Just the first 2 episodes of season 10 had enough slash to choke a horse.

Hey does anyone ever think that mabye Matt and Trey are trying to hint that Stan and Kyle are gay. From the pics that kfgg posted it sure looks that way :P

Look at Matt and Trey THEMSELVES. Half of the photoshoots involve at least one picture of Trey falling all over Matt like "wahgh ♥" XD I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if he were like, "Okay yeah I'm a little more than a little gay >o>" However, Trey could just be a moosh and have a flair for uhh. :d Looking gay but not really being all that gay? I don't know. D: All I know is the overt queerness sometimes bleeds over into South Park.

And goddamnit Tweek and Craig is a trainwreck waiting to happen :[ Clyde/Tweek forevar. [although if Craig is willing to make it work with a threesome, I don't see the problem. Clyde would work as a good balance between Craig's pissed-off apathy and Tweek's batshit crazies. 8( ]

AND Ahhhhh sunset scene. I still get the wibbles over that X3

Just remember though that a close friendship doesn't always or necessarily translate into a viable romantic relationship. Part of the reason this genre is so successful is because the absurdity makes it humorous. Consider your observation about M&T. Their reason for acting that way is precisely because it's funny; they're both comedians after all and nearly everybody in the business makes gay jokes along the line.

Slash works better as a romantic comedy in my opinion. It kind of ruins it if the author takes it way too seriously, especially if there are any gratuitious scenes involved.

Well Duh. I love them as friends, first and foremost. That's what their relationship would be even if they were doing it on the side. They're best friends and it's the core of their relationship.

And I know Matt and Trey are just being silly XD Gay can be funny. >o> There's just this fixation with the gay on the show. I'm not saying that OMFG TREY YOU ARE A QUEER HOMG, I'm just saying that it's not hard to make the stretch. D: Plus, it's silly. I like silly.

Pfft. I love romance. My ovaries dictate that the idea of two people in love will make me all happy and stupid. I like romance with comedy, but I don't often like to use the gay as a punchline x_x; It feels cheap, and it's just not my style.

I love romance, but not exactly the hardcore stuff. In a fic, I'd say romantic comedy is best, but in a piece of artwork... yeah, nothing hardcore. Because no pairing should be taken too seriously. (I know, I know... this from Miss Pip x Damien Addict... XD)

And yeah, M&T are close friends and have the tendency to poke fun at homosexuality, like basically everyone else in the industry these days. I think maybe they act gay for harmless comedic reasons (plus I know a lot of straight guys at my school do the same thing just to be silly...) and they're not really hurting anyone. If anything, they're poking fun at the people who think they're gay for each other. XD That's just my thought about it.

slash is irritating me now. I supported it for gay rights, but I dunno the more I see the less I wanna see. There's a dark side to it all that I don't even wanna know about.
Just my take on it, I mean I respect you if it's what you like and all but I just can't stand the after taste anymore. I think the "sex" word comes up to the point it creeps me out a little. It's not about the cute stuff it's about sex. I just don't like that at all. I'm gonna like stan and kyle and the other pairings as "slash for friends" and keep it at that.

I understand... a lot of slash out there is like that. I used to be anti-slash for those reasons, too, a long time ago. It's fine, because some couples are just better as friendships!

D: I don't think supporting slash for gay rights is really the thing to do. It's completely seperate, and it's okay if you don't like it. I don't read the many bajillions of Wendy/Cartman out there cause I don't like it.

I can see where you're coming from. Personally, I don't feel weird about putting the boys into sexual situations (when they're older, of course), but again, if it gives you the creeps cause you can't shake the image of naive little boys from your head, that's cool too. :[ You're right in that a lot of fics are like, "OMG PORN LOLZ." I really don't like reading fics like that, either, since smut can be really cheap.

To me, Stan and Kyle are best friends, and that's always going to be there. I hate when people write them as just boys lusting after eachother, since their relationship is so casual and affectionate even without the romance.

;o; You CAN find cute snuggly fluff, but it's just kind of hard to search for in the cesspool that is ff.net.

I'd rather go without the sex, too. @_@ There's really a total of one author on ff.net whose fanfiction I love, and I'll totally overlook the bits of smut in it, because she's an amazing writer already, so I'm not going to be so judgemental over what I'd rather not read and end up missing out on some totally kickass fanfiction. Besides, if the writer does it well enough, it barely crosses my mind that they're still little kids on the show. So if the author can be godly enough to incorporate smut and still have some kickass writing, then I'll read the damn smut.

See, the thing I love about slash (aside from it being totally adorable) is the whole emotional and angst aspect. It just makes me go squee on the inside, even though I do prefer reading them as friends, I still totally love the casual slashy aspect.

And I never really thought of slash = gay rights, it's just... fictional gay that mostly teenaged girls just really happen to adore.

Yeah I know, I don't think my friend who loves slash or all those girls who squeeled over Brokeback, would be very happy if they met real gay men. I remember this friend of mine who loves slash telling me how clean gay men are, and it's funny because I actually know some gay men and none of them are very "clean". Or pretty for that matter.

Though to be honest, some of the younger ones like slash because it represents them and I remember liking girl slash when I was a teen. But I got betrayed by Tatu who, it turns out, were managed by a man who considers pedo-porn an "untapped" market. ~~~Ick!~~~
So yeah, like Tatu even though it was geared towards the opposite sex, sometimes slash is refreshing for [younger] gays who are under-represented in the media.

It’s funny though that women who write slash and men who write slash are unaware of this. But yes, I see slash as a sort of “fantastical” pretty unrealistic view of gays, but still a representation none the less. But then most good romance is “fantastical”, “pretty” and “unrealistic”. I don’t really have a problem with that. But I’m just not liking slash culture too much at the moment just for the “squeeling fangirls and fanboys” aspect which I don’t *hate* it’s just irritating me atm. >.>;;

Ugh yeah. I have issues with the fangirls and fanboys. Granted, when cute teenage boys kiss, Imma squee. XD I can't help it, it's a kneejerk reaction.

It sucks though, cause that just kind of puts me with the people who are basically slashing everything they can just so they can get their fix of the hot manlove xox;

But...I don't let fans of things totally ruin anything for me D: I'm not above running away and ignoring idiots.

I don't really care for the hardcore stuff because the point of most slash fics is to show a kind of fairytale romance. This is why I personally like slash as these days everyone is only in relationships coz they wanna get laid. And I'm not just talking about adults (I'm a kid so I should know). I think deep down everyone wishes that they could find this perfect human being and fall in love and everything will be happy and they will go on romantic walks and all that but I have never actually heard of that happening and I guess people just give up hope. It's a shame. What ever happened to the innocence of youth? I guess I'm just one of those hopeless romantics heh heh.

PS: Most of that was kinda badly written coz I'm too drunk to think of better words.
