That theme is the one from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Everything about that time travel segment was taken from that programme and spoofed really well!

As Big Will wrote on his Sciptorium's The Secrets of "You Got F'd In The A":

What are the Goths listening to? To me, it sound a bit like Johnny Hates Jazz's "Shattered Dreams," but sped up. Others say it sounds like The Cure or Joy Division.

I'm offshore at present but will re-watch that episode on my return and try to find an answer.

Yeah, the one they all dance to, to show how they dance, sounds A LOT like Transmission by Joy Division.

And the main riff of Shattered Dreams sped up totally does sound like what they dancing to!

I'm suprised nobody brought up the old looney toon song "I Love To Sing" on the very first episode of south park...the exact song cartman sang after he was zapped by the visitors when him and the boys were walking home from school...that was a classic! Do anyone know who sang that song by any chance? (I doubt it but I'm guessing it was from the 30's)

I Love to Singa was by Al Jolsen and Cab Calloway. And I think it's from a film called The Singing Kid from 1936. I think it's that film.

Oh, and the song from the first hockey match in Stanley's Cup is Song #2 by Blur.

"I Love to Singa" was sung in the 1936 Merrie Melodies cartoon by Tommy Bond (1926-2005), who was best known as Butch - the bully character - in The Little Rascals. Cab Calloway - Curtis in The Blues Brothers - sang it in the 1936 Warner Bros film The Singing Kid.

There's even a fan site devoted to the Merrie Melodies cartoon that featured the song: http://www.birtman.com/owl/
