South Park - Foreign Voiceovers

Postby dryer_than_a_nuns_c*nt » Sun Mar 18, 2007 8:20 pm

Heya, i couldnt imagine south park being funny without Matt n Trey providing the voices. This topic is really me asking all you foreign dudes what the voices are like after they have been translated into your native language. Here in the UK on the SP dvds we get the option of watching the show in French (4 some obscure reason). the voices sounded hella lame and i would imagine that would spoil it for me if i were French or whatever. So I would appreciate a lil feedback on how you dudes enjoy South Parks characters voices wherever u are from.
PS, an example would be....does Butters have a high voice in your version of SP. does Big Gay Al sound Super gay?
Peace Out

In Germany we had a really bad dubbing for the first seven seasons, but then another channel took over the show. Right now they air the tenth season on MTV and they do a better job now. They even visit our German South Park message board for feedback. The voices are still the same, but they try to translate it nearer to the original version now.
One example: During the first season most jew- and Hitler-jokes were censored, but now they even kept Cartman's part in "The passion of the jew".

Regarding censorship: In German TV it's okay to say every "bad word", but the bleebs are still there, because it belongs to the typical humour of the show. For some time they even put in more swearwords, and so many German viewers think about South Park just as a silly show with really pubertal humour. :(

Most songs were preatty bad during the first seasons, but this keeps getting better too. Unfortunately the voices of the 4 boys sound like grown ups, who try to immitate kids... and they can't sing. So sometimes their songs are sung by different voice-actors, which is kinda cunfusing. But the grown ups in the show are voiced pretty good, especially Chef and Mr Garrison. Oh, and in Germany Jimbo had the voice of Tom Hanks for some time :D
Kenny is translated very different from season to season, though it's layways the same woman who speaks him. Some time ago he never talked, it was just mumbling. Then someone decided, that the viewers should understand every single word - that was really stupid! Right now he sounds more like the originel Kenny.

I would like to show some audio-examples, but I'm not sure about copyrights.

Although I personally prefer to original one, here in Japan we had a great dubbing. It's shame that they don't air SP in here any more.

Here's ' Something you can do with your finger' in Japanese.
Enjoy :D
