Kim Jong Il's death. He was surely an a$$hole, to begin with.
Also, the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the beatification of Pope John Paul II.

Still the same as it ever was.

This was an extremely eventful year. Lots of big stuff happened on a global scale. But this year was also very eventful for me personally. I graduated high school, joined and left the Navy, and my dad and stepmom divorced. I think the biggest event this year was the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. That will be something for the history books.
Can't we all just get along?

I really hope it's Occupy that turns out to have been the definitive event of 2011 for society. It's effects won't truly be known until we get another round of national elections next fall. Then it would be like the American version of the Arab spring; something that might very well define 2011 to future humans.
For me personally, 2011 can kiss my ass. What a shitty year. Worst one since 2004 at least. Good riddance. If 2012 is any worse, I'll welcome the 'end of the world' with open arms.

For me this year was pretty damn good! I've got a job after 9 months (?) of unemployment, had some great times (lots of memories for lifetime), my band signed a contract with a booking agency and (probably the best) I joined SPS!

It will be interesting to see.

I have to admit this year was almost comically sh*tty for me as well.

The good: Bruins win Stanley Cup!
and I live through a hurricane *sorta*
The Bad: A lot of earthquakes, the Japan Tsunami, Tornadoes in Alabama, Joplin, MO and Springfield, MA....(I wasn't there when it happened thank goodness). Also Casey Anthony getting freed, justice wasn't served even through due process
The Ugly: Charlie Sheen
Lindsay Lohan
Occupy Wall Street
and of course...Anthony "Weiner"
The Worthy News: The deaths of Bin Laden, Gyadaffi, and Kim Jung Il along with Steve Jobs (RIP)
The wedding of Kate Middleton/Prince William
The arrest of James "Whitey" Bulger.
My life: Nothing much. I graduated with a 4 year degree *finally* and I got an XBOX360.

RTL: I love being a dick to people for no reason. It makes me feel better about how my mom smacks me around with a frozen T Bone steak.

Heavy Burtations also was of some cultural significance. I don't know about "defining moment", but it was, actually, a very very heavy burtation.

Overcoming my writers' block.
Also, finding an unopened pack of Starbursts on the ground. Damn... that was a great day.

That would have made my year too. The best edible thing I ever found on the ground was an apple. But it was near an apple tree so it doesn't really count.

You know that gives me an idea...
Apple flavored Starbursts!
No one would ever eat them.
